GPay allows UPI payments via RuPay credit cards; check how to do it?

Users will now be able to make UPI payments using credit cards from RuPay thanks to a partnership between Google Pay and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Users can make payments both online and offline at businesses that accept RuPay credit cards by linking their RuPay credit cards to Google Pay (GPay).

Holders of RuPay credit cards from a few banks, including Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, and Union Bank of India, can presently access the service. In the near future, additional banks are anticipated to join this programme.

How do I use Google Pay to access RuPay credit cards?

  • Users must first add their RuPay credit card to the service in order to use it with Google Pay.
  • The bank that issued their RuPay credit card can be chosen by navigating to their profile settings, choosing the “RuPay credit card on UPI” option, and selecting that choice. After that, users must set a special UPI PIN by providing their bank’s OTP, the last six digits of their card number, and the date on which it expires.
  • Users can use their RuPay credit cards to make UPI payments after the setup is complete. Similar to all UPI transactions carried out using Google Pay, they will input the UPI PIN they previously created during transactions.

India has seen a significant increase in UPI transactions in recent years; according to NPCI, the monthly transaction count will reach 8.7 billion in March 2023. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the connecting of RuPay credit cards to the UPI network in June 2022 to further the expansion of digital payments in the nation.
