ISRO future 2023 missions are exciting: says Chairman Somanath

The ISRO used the dependable Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) to successfully launch seven Singaporean satellites into their respective orbits today.

Somanath shared details on the space agency’s future launch efforts, which will be based in Bengaluru. Another PSLV mission is planned for August or early September, according to him.

“This year itself, we are going to have exciting missions. The PSLV is going to fly again. We are going to have the Gaganyaan test vehicle which is currently getting integrated,” Somnath Said.

According to ISRO, the Gaganyaan project seeks to show human spaceflight capability by sending a crew of three people into a 400-kilometer orbit for a three-day trip and safely returning them to Earth with a landing in Indian sea waters.

Following the July 14 launch of Chandrayaan-3, scientists at Satish Dhawan Space Centre are involved in the spacecraft’s orbit-raising maneuvers, and preparations are continuing for the rocket’s August 1 mission to the Moon. The difficult soft landing on the lunar surface is scheduled for August 23 at 5:47 p.m.

ISRO also has additional key missions in the works, including the third developmental mission of the SSLV (Small Satellite Launch Vehicle) and a GSLV mission to launch the INSAT-3DS satellite. The SSLV, ISRO’s sixth launch vehicle, has flown twice in development, in August 2022 and February 2023.
